Prague - a City of Breathtaking Architecture

Day one: My bus to Prague left at 10am this morning and I got in a bit of a fright as the company had emailed me the night before saying the bus had changed. I thankfully managed to find it - only to discover it was still a bus just a different one. Anyway it took around two hours until I changed to a train in Novy Bohumin which is just over the border in the Czech Republic. The train was another almost four hours but it was great to see the countryside plus a nuclear reactor. Unfortunately the train was going too quickly for me to take a picture. We got to Prague and let’s just say even just walking out of the station you can see how amazing the buildings are. The picture below is a street away from my hostel. Day two: Last night I found a brochure for a Communism tour with a visit to a underground. It looked right up my alley so I booked it and started at 11am. I got to the square to find out that I was the only one who signed up. I was a bit nervous at first but I ended up having an...

Poland - A Walk Through History

Day one: I got to Kraków and found my way into town via a train from the airport. I found it strange that google maps does not seem to understand that there is a train station in the middle of town. I got to my hostel and realised I had made a big mistake. It was a Soviet styled hostel and I think they took the idea too literally. I got to my room and there was no curtains. I was also assigned a top bunk which looked unsafe and I could hardly reach the steps. I managed to changed to the bottom bunk for that night and they said I could change rooms the following day. I got into bed and the mattress was made of thin foam meaning I could feel the metal frame of the bed. I then was awoken up loud drunk people in the hall outside my bedroom. I have no issue with drunkeness - just not where I’m sleeping. I did eventually fall asleep. Day two: I woke up feeling sore from my awful nights sleep. It was then that I decided that enough was enough. I got onto Expedia found a one bedroom apartment...

Amsterdam - One Day Special

One day only: Had to wake up at 2.40am as my bus left at 3.30 for my 6am flight. I only managed maybe four hours sleep as the person above me kept alternating coughing and laughing. I then put in my earphones to block out the noise only for her then to start watching whatever she was out loud. Luckily she switched back to earphones when I asked. Anyway I got up and had to walk 20 minutes to the square where the bus leaves from. I had intended to take a taxi but of course they are on strike. Luckily there were still bars and restaurants open so I didn’t get mugged or stabbed. The temperature was still 25 degrees outside so I was sweating by the time I got there. As there was a taxi strike the bus was completely full but luckily almost everyone got a seat. Got to the airport and checked into my flight okay then had to sit next to the most annoying man. I was on the window seat and he was in the middle and decided to take up my arm rest and most of the space for my legs. He did move them ...

Athens - Where I angered the Gods

Day one: I had to get up at 4.45am for my flight this morning as I needed to get to the airport as it left at 8.15. I could have left a bit later considering the flight was delayed, however, I have a thing about being extra early for flights so I don’t regret my decision. My great joy getting on the plane was discovering that I had three seats to myself. As you can tell I’m about to loose something again, not my hat nor my iPad (it’s safety in the UK) or my iPhone or passport but my earphones. This was especially anoying as it had my iPhone to earphone connector attached. When I realised I went to the information desk only to find I would have to file a report etc and I decided it was not worth the effort. Luckily the airport has electronic shops and after discovering a new connector was €20 I decided instead to buy wireless for €25. It’s slight annoying to do this in the fact that cheap wireless earphones are crap quality and you have to recharge them a lot as their battery is not goo...
