New York City - The City That Never Sleeps (days 4-6)

Day four:

I had a bit of a sleep in today and then headed off to my Central Park movie and tv tour. It was amazing - any picture you see can never live up to the real thing. Saying that though some parts were a bit smaller then I thought.

Deciding to stay on theme I then went to Gray’s Papayas hot dogs features in both my fav movie You’ve Got Mail and fav dumb movie Fools Rush in. I had the recession special which was two hot dogs and a drink. The hot dogs were good but not amazing but I’m so glad I went.

I then headed off to see the new adventures movie - everyone was going on about it on FB plus there was teenage Groot! Baby groot was excited to see himself again on the big screen!

Day Five

I signed up for a Brooklyn Bridge Dumbo area walking tour. Unfortunately this was not the tour for me. As you all should know I have short legs and am slow at the best of times. I have to say I’ve been on other walking tours on this holiday and things were a lot slower plus the guide waited for all people to catch up before talking again. We made our way across the bridge and it was amazing. Apparently when it first opened people were trampled to death and refused to believe it was safe to talk across. The famous circus owner PT Barnum walked over his elephants and camels across the bridge to show how sturdy it was.

We made it to Brooklyn and were given a brief overview of the area. For some reason we were on a forced march to an area where there were shops and she then suggested where we could eat. Now as I said above I’ve taken a few walking tours on this trip - including ones for free. None of them were so blatant to ask for tips nor was there any pressure to give one. This woman was rude she insinuated that if you didn’t you were some sort of horrible person. All of this was said in a funny way but nonetheless didn’t impress me especially when the tour in itself cost $25 per person and there were a minimum of 30 of us there.

Going back into the city I met a friendly men who helped me find the subway back to the city. He was working on getting Italian citizenship for his family as he was worried about his children growing up in the USA.

I then had some NYC pizza - I went to Joe's Pizza as I had seen a few youtube videos and this was the best place they had all tried. Only around $3 a slice it was pretty good. Cheese I could give or take but the sauce was amazing.

I had a few hours to kill before my show that night and I was going to see the Empire State Building (glad I skipped that day)! Instead I found Thinkgeek the shop with everything pop culture and nerdy. I could not buy much but managed to pick up a Wonder Woman t shirt and wallet along with some Dark Crystal playing cards and Mario UNO.

Heading to Avenue Q I got there a bit early and relaxed on the most comfy couch. Unfortunately they had stopped selling merchandise for the show a week before so I was unable to buy a programme - hopefully I can buy one online.

The show was hilarious! If you have not seen it it’s based on Sesame Street except everyone has grown up. We are not special and life pretty much sucks. The ladies beside me were a bit shocked by a few parts (there was some puppet sex) so not sure if they knew about the show before they bought tickets.

Day Six

The NYC pass is brilliant. I’m managing to see and do things I never would had I not bought it. I signed up for something called The Tour. It was an interactive show on a bus going around the downtown area. What made this even more amazing was by including VR! I also appreciated a lot of Native American history was included throughout.

Before the tour, however, I found Midtown Comics. A normal comic book store but with a lot of collectables. I managed to get both the teenage Groot pop vinyl and a solar powered baby Groot bobble head. This is going to make a great addition to my desk at work!

I then headed to the Nintendo Store again as I wanted to get a minifigure dressed as the Statue of Liberty. The other store had sold out and I thought maybe they had some but they didn’t.

I love New York parks, I found one to relax in for a a bit before I tackled the Empire State Building. I then headed up and glad I had waited until later in the day. The line was long and would have been even worse earlier in the day. The view was amazing though. I wish I had done this earlier in my trip as I don’t think you can have a real scale of the city without seeing how big it actually is.

I was exhausted at this stage and knew I needed the next day off. However, at this stage everyday is Sunday so I never know what day it is. I had bought a seven day New York Pass and subway ticket and this was day six. I had a few things I
still needed to cross off my list and I only had the following day to get it done.
