Washington - Museums and Monuments

Boston to Washington via train: Today I took the train from Boston to Washington - just under seven hours which I passed the time by some reading the and watching a movie. It was an interesting journey and I spoke to a lady who was taking her twin sons to NYC for a few days as it is spring break at the moment. It was here that I had the most amazing bagel with cream cheese - amazing combination so I see why it’s popular. I also had this cheese platter - around $5 and tasted amazing. I got into Washington in the late afternoon and was struck by how breathtaking it is even from the train station. I then checked in and had an early night before my busy day tomorrow. Day One: I woke up and after breakfast headed to the National Archives to see the Declaration of Independence and Constitution. The building as you can see is stunning. Saying that almost all are - as the tour guide for my tour later said this town was created specifically for the government which is why it’s so immaculate and...

Welcome to Boston

Day One:  I had not slept the night before and managed to get to the airport around 4am (my flight was at 6am). Although I was told I would have a wheelchair waiting for me the American Airlines ground staff were less than helpful and refused to do anything until I had checked in, including having to lift a heavy bag almost unable to stand up. I somehow managed to hobble to the pharmacy across the road which luckily sold snacks as I then got into bed and stayed there the next day and a half.  Day Two: It is now that I would like to thank the USA for their love of ice. I bought an ice pack and every few hours hobbled down to refill it. I slept for most of the day but by the evening it was feeling markedly better, enough to get ...

Chicago - the Cold and Windy City

Union Station is amazing!  I arrived in the afternoon and walking from Union Station across the road to find my Uber I had a rather strange experience with a homeless man. He attempted to assist me - I did say a number of times that I didn’t need his help, however, he persisted. Luckily my Uber arrived and he gave me some advice on how to deal with people like that going forward. Arriving at my new hostel I was quite impressed as there was a restaurant / bar downstairs which means I could stay in for the evening.  Day One: The following morning I had to head back to Target to exchange some tee shirts and my jeans that had the security tag left on! Luckily I did because I managed to buy this Lego set that has technically not been released. I also managed to pick up some much more comfortable shoes.  I then went on a hop on hop off bus tour of the city. Although it was interesting to see the many landmarks I don’t think the tour guides were well trained as they seemed to be...
